An easier way to listen to the 5by5 live stream.

I’m a big fan of the various podcasts on the 5by5 network. These span a variety of topics and subjects, almost all of which I’m interested in. A subset of these shows are recorded while being streamed live. You can listen to them via the 5by5 website (http://5by5.tv/live).

I do this for all my favorite shows, but I soon found that I didn’t like having to play them within the browser. So I wrote a Mac menubar application that monitors the feed status and starts playing my favorite shows whenever they start. I’ve been using it myself for months, then decided to share it with other 5by5 fans. It’s called FiveLive. Enjoy.

Features

  • Listen to the 5by5 live stream from a convenient menubar app
  • Subtle icon notifications for current stream state
  • Quick access to the Recording schedule page
  • Automatically pauses iTunes/Spotify when it starts playing.
  • Optionally auto-start playback of your favorite shows
  • Optionally launch your preferred IRC client when playback begins

This app is officially sanctioned and Dan Benjamin Approved. [8m:40s]

Installation

FiveLive is free.

If you previously got FiveLive from this site directly, please delete that version and use the Mac App Store version instead. The App Store version will be supported and updated going forward.
